Storage is a big concern when it comes to off-roading. We have to pack quite a bit of stuff in our rigs when we want to do weekend getaways, so we’re always interested in seeing what the aftermarket offers to bolster our capabilities. One company, Decked, came by earlier this week to show us their in-vehicle storage system on the late-model Toyota Tacoma.
“This is an organized, ergonomic, and weatherproof storage system for all full-size trucks and vans, as well as midsize trucks,” said Decked’s Greg Randolph. “It’s made of injection-molded, high-density polyethylene. Inside the mold, we do a steel skeleton to give it extra support rigidity.”
The storage system fit perfectly into the Tacoma's bed. It offered multiple storage areas, and its two roll-out bins could be locked for security.
There were many parts that made up the storage system. First off, it raised the deck of the bed by 12 inches, providing a nice, flat space for storage and organization. It could support up to 2,000 pounds on top.
Below, two full-length drawers on rollers could extend out to place tools, food, and other items. They could store up to 200 pounds of stuff. Optional drain plugs could be installed for ease of washing out the drawers after a fun-filled weekend. “In the corners, we have our storage pockets that we call ‘ammo cans,'” said Randolph, as he lifted the snap-in lids.
The "ammo can" storage areas of the storage system had snap-in lids that could be removed for quick access to tools and other items.
There was a lot of potential for the in-vehicle storage system – recovery straps, starter cables, water bottles, and more could all be safely locked and stored away for when they were needed most. We recommend you check out more from Decked by visiting their website and Facebook page.
Randolph showed us optional accessories – called D-boxes – for even more storage possibilities.
