The Nissan Armada SUV is all-new for the 2025 model year. Now, the new Armada has several interesting features, but one stands out to us off-road fans. For the first time, the nameplate will be offered with the PRO-4X off-road package. This is Nissan jumping head-first into the off-road-capable, large SUV market with the 2025 Nissan Armada PRO-4X. Here’s some of what the three-row SUV has to offer.
About The 2025 Nissan Armada PRO-4X Package
The new PRO-4X grade on the body-on-frame 2025 Nissan Armada includes several items to improve its off-road capabilities over its non-PRO-4X siblings. There’s an electronic locking rear differential (only available on the PRO-4X) that sends power on demand to both rear wheels. Additionally, there’s an Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension for the IFS/IRS, which allows the SUV to be raised 2.1 inches above standard height. According to Nissan specifications, it uses air springs and shocks up front and air springs with shocks separated from the coil springs in the rear.
Add to the list a reshaped front fascia to improve approach angle, metal underbody skidplate, and 275/60R20 (33-inch) all-terrain tires. Consequently, the Armada PRO-4X has a maximum 9.6 inches of ground clearance, an approach angle of 33 degrees, departure angle of 24.5 degrees, and a 25.5-degree breakover angle. All of this is respectable, though we’d personally prefer the 2025 Armada’s available 18-inch-diameter wheels instead of those 20s.
Drive Modes, Cameras, Visual Design Cues
The PRO-4X package includes eight selectable drive modes. They include Standard, Eco, Sport, Tow, Snow, Sand, Rock, and Mud/Rut. These modes amend various vehicle systems to optimize performance in the selected situation. Additionally, there’s hill descent control. Furthermore, the PRO-4X includes an Off-Road Information Display that features a wheel slip indicator, inclinometer, and steering angle indicator.
Also included in the PRO-4X package is a variety of camera technologies. For example, Invisible Hood View helps spot obstacles by providing a virtual view “through” the engine bay. There’s also Front Wide View, which provides a wide-angle view to the front, and there’s a 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor that offers the drive the ability to “rotate” the viewing angle on the infotainment display to help spot obstacles from almost any angle.
The Armada PRO-4X sports several package-specific visual features, like other Nissan PRO-4X models. There are Lava Red accents on the front towhooks, lettering on the wheel caps, and a D-pillar accent. The SUV also has black fender flares, mirror covers, roof rails, and front grille.
Beefy Frame, More Power
It’s worth noting that the all-new 2025 Nissan Armada has a frame with 25 percent greater torsional rigidity than the outgoing model. Additionally, it has 57 percent increased lateral stiffness. Nissan notes that this creates a strong foundation for the first-ever Armada PRO-4X grade. These improvements also contribute to improved ride quality and better sound isolation.
Also notable is that the new Armada is closely related to the all-new Nissan Patrol that was unveiled in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on the same day as the new Armada. In fact, the two are similar but each is fine-tuned to meet the specific needs of their markets.
Under the hood of the 2025 Nissan Armada is a twin-turbo, direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 engine. Yes, the 400 horsepower 5.6-liter V8 engine that made 413 pound-feet of torque in the previous generation Armada has ridden off into the sunset. The new 3.5-liter V6 may be two less cylinders, but it produces an improved 425 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with 5.425 First gear ratio. This new transmission offers a 40 percent increased gear ratio range compared to the seven-speed automatic transmission in the outgoing Armada. The 2025 Armada retains the 8,500-pound max towing capacity of the previous generation.
On Sale By The End Of 2024
The 2025 Nissan Armada PRO-4X will be on sale by the end of 2024. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
