2025 Ram Heavy Duty: New 6.7-Liter Cummins, Power Wagon And Rebel Return

The team at Ram Trucks has unveiled its 2025 model year 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks, and there’s good news for those of us in the off-road world. The update includes the return of the off-road-centric Power Wagon and Rebel, along with a more durable and powerful Cummins turbodiesel paired with a new eight-speed transmission. Here’s a look at the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty trucks.

Power Wagon And Rebel Return

Let’s begin with the Power Wagon and Rebel, the only two Ram Heavy Duty models that come with four-wheel drive as standard equipment. Each is based on the Ram 2500 and designed to excel off-road. Another similarity is their pricing. The base MSRP for the Power Wagon is $68,645, while the Rebel is slightly higher at $68,940. While both are equipped for off-road travel, they achieve that goal in different ways. Both come with an AAM 9.25-inch solid front axle, a standard electronic rear locking differential, and an electronic-shift two-speed transfer case, but from there, it’s a study in contrasts.

For example, the Power Wagon has 17-inch wheels, whereas the Rebel is fitted with 20-inch wheels. The Power Wagon is shod with 285/70R17 (32.7-inch-diameter) tires, while the Rebel’s LT285/60R20 tires are slightly larger (33.5 inches in diameter). The Power Wagon also features an electronic locking front differential, while the Rebel has an open differential. Power Wagon boasts an Articulink suspension with a disconnecting front sway bar, whereas the Rebel’s coil-spring suspension can be ordered with an optional auto-leveling rear air suspension.

Both models can be fitted with an optional electric winch, though you’ll need to forgo the Cummins turbodiesel option in the Rebel and add the Power Wagon Level 2 Equipment Group. As for engines, both the Rebel and Power Wagon come standard with the 6.4-liter HEMI V8, producing 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. As mentioned, the Rebel can also be optioned with the new 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine.

The new 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output turbodiesel makes 430 horsepower and 1,075 pound-feet of torque.

About The New 6.7-Liter Cummins High-Output Turbodiesel

The new 6.7-liter (408 cubic-inch) Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel engine, available as an option for 2025 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks (depending on configuration), replaces the standard-output diesel for 2025. The 6.7-liter Cummins now produces 430 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 1,075 pound-feet of torque at just 1,800 rpm. For comparison, this is only a 10-horsepower increase over the 2024 Ram 3500’s 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel. However, it represents a significant 60-horsepower and 225-pound-feet of torque gain over the standard-output Cummins found in the 2024 models.

Bye Grid Heater, Hello Glow Plugs

The new 6.7-liter turbodiesel is said to offer notable improvements across several key areas: drivability, fuel economy, durability, startability, serviceability, and NVH. Some of the main upgrades include a redesigned engine block and cylinder head, heavy-duty pistons, and a new performance intake manifold. Additionally, there’s an upgraded turbocharger, larger intake and exhaust valves, and a higher-pressure fuel system. For enhanced serviceability and airflow, the new engine features advanced intake port geometry for top-feed injectors, top-load lubrication, and integrated fuel filters. Finally—and some may say, “finally!”—the new engine uses glow plugs instead of a grid heater.

The new Cummins turbodiesel also contributes to a quicker Ram truck. Ram claims it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, compared to 8.0 seconds for the 2024 model year.

Mated to the new 6.7-liter Cummins is a new eight-speed ZF TorqueFlite HD transmission.

New Eight-Speed ZF TorqueFlite HD Transmission For Diesel-Powered Trucks

Tim Kuniskis, Ram Brand Chief Executive Officer at Stellantis, says, “More than 70 percent of Ram heavy-duty customers opt for the diesel, and for 2025, we’ve built on that demand and long-lasting durability with an improved Cummins engine coupled with a new eight-speed transmission. This is a very specific pickup segment that requires a powerful tool — every 2025 Ram 2500 we sell offers the potential of 1,075 pound-feet of torque in every gear, for a 70 percent increase in torque delivery over the previous-generation 2500.”

The new eight-speed transmission Kuniskis is referring to is the ZF TorqueFlite HD 8AP1075 automatic. It is the standard, and only, transmission available with the 6.7-liter Cummins. It features a five-clutch-pack design with only two open clutches in any gear, along with a torque converter lock featuring a turbine torsional damper for low lock-up speeds in First through Eighth gear. Additionally, it has automatic or Electronic Range Select (ERS) manual control, a lower cruise engine rpm, and wide gear ratios that allow for a reduction in rear axle ratio. The new transmission uses helical gears, which Ram says helps reduce overall NVH. It is shifted via a new electronic column shifter. Fun fact: Ram says the Heavy Duty engine control system recognizes whether the truck is loaded or unloaded, and the new TorqueFlite transmission enables smooth Second gear starts when unladen.

For 2025, the Ram Heavy Duty trucks feature updated grilles with a unique design, depending on the selected trim level. New wheels are also a part of the 2025 model year changes. These two photos show the Ram Rebel grille and wheel/tire combination.

Towing And Payload Capacities

Ram says the 2025 Heavy Duty trucks have a maximum towing capacity of 36,610 pounds when equipped with the Cummins turbodiesel. Maximum payload is said to be 7,590 pounds for HEMI-powered trucks. The 2025 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty has a maximum gooseneck trailer weight rating of 36,610 pounds and a maximum conventional hitch trailer weight rating of 23,000 pounds.

New Wheels, Grilles, LED Headlamps, And More

Also new for 2025 on the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks is a new wheel design, an improved 12-inch touchscreen, a new 14.5-inch touchscreen, and an on-board power inverter that offers up to 2.4 kilowatts via two covered outlets located inside the bed. Additionally, there is class-exclusive dual wireless phone charging for front passengers, enhanced lane-keeping assist, and an available fully digital rearview mirror. Furthermore, the trucks feature updated grilles with a unique design, depending on the selected trim level. New premium LED headlamps, including twin bi-functional projectors, are available, while LEDs are now standard.

You can still get Ram’s handy RamBox cargo management system on the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty trucks. This unique, bed rail-mounted system is lockable and weatherproof, with interior lighting and a 115-volt power outlet. Available with the RamBox is a pickup bed divider and a cargo rail system with four sliding, adjustable cleats.

Pricing And Availability

Pricing for the 2025 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty starts at $47,560, including destination. The trucks are expected to arrive at Ram dealerships in the first quarter of 2025.

Fun tip: You can save some money and still get Power Wagon features on a Ram 2500 by adding the Power Wagon Package to a base Tradesman crew cab 4×4 with a 6-foot, 4-inch box. This configuration gets you a HEMI-powered truck with Tru-Lok front and rear locking differentials, 4.10 gears, a front disconnecting stabilizer bar, performance-tuned shocks, a taller ride height, a winch, and more.

The 2025 Ram 2500 Tradesman crew cab 4×4 with 6-foot, 4-inch bed has a base MSRP of $54,110, and the $7,995 Power Wagon Package brings the total to $64,400, which is $4,245 lower than the Power Wagon’s base $68,645 MSRP. However, it’s worth noting that a winch is optional on the Power Wagon as part of the Level 2 Equipment Group, which adds $8,495 to the base MSRP of the Power Wagon. Hence, the savings are even bigger. So, if you can get by with fewer bells and whistles, a base Tradesman with the Power Wagon Package is a good deal.
