Ford’s 2025 Bronco Stroppe Special Edition is a nod to the original Stroppe Baja Bronco from the ’60s and ’70s. Why is that notable, and what makes a 2025 Bronco Stroppe Special Edition special? Read on.
About Racing Legend Bill Stroppe
The Stroppe name is legendary in the off-road world. For example, the Off-Road Motorsport Hall of Fame dubbed Bill Stroppe a “legendary builder of winning off-road vehicles.” An example of his feats include the first and still only outright win by a stock 4×4 (a Stroppe-prepared Bronco, of course) at Baja in 1969. Stroppe pioneered off-road competition for Ford, and the company says he established the foundation that today’s Bronco is built on.
Along the way, Stroppe recruited Parnelli Jones, and the pair won multiple races in Broncos with Jones driving and Stroppe navigating. “Bill Stroppe not only established Bronco’s competition legacy at events like the Baja 1000 and NORRA Mexican 1000, but Stroppe Baja Broncos put his off-road knowhow on the road and helped establish Bronco with consumers,” says Ford Archivist Ted Ryan.
Stroppe Broncos are also legendary. Jason Hyde, Bronco Brand Manager, says, “When you purchased a Stroppe Baja Bronco in 1971, it rolled out of Bill Stroppe’s factory ready to tackle the Baja 1000.” It is said that several hundred Baja Broncos were produced.
2025 Stroppe Special Edition Gets 35s, 17-Inch Beadlock-Capable Wheels, And More
The 2025 Ford Bronco Stroppe Special Edition will replace the Wildtrak in the Bronco lineup. The Stroppe Special Edition will be available only as a two-door model, fitted with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and the SUV has 4.70:1 axle gearing. On the performance side of things, it has Fox Live Valve 3.1 internal bypass semi- active shocks. These are designed for improved control during high-speed desert running. They’re part of the High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension 3.0, known as HOSS 3.0. There’s also a standard stabilizer bar disconnect to improve wheel travel. The Sasquatch package is standard and that includes 35-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires on beadlock-capable 17-inch wheels, along with front and rear electronic differential lockers.
High-Clearance Fenders, Removable Side Steps
The exterior of the Bronco Stroppe Special Edition sports Code Orange, Oxford White, and Atlas Blue colors. Ford says this is a modern take on the original Calypso Coral, Wimbledon White, and Astra Blue coloring of the Stroppe Baja Broncos. The hood is matte black, which helps to reduce sun glare. “We’ve been hinting at the return of a Bronco Stroppe Special Edition with our competition Broncos since returning to the Baja 1000 with the Bronco R in 2020,” said North American Design Director Gordon Platto. “That combination of Code Orange, Oxford White, and Atlas Blue, and matte black, was chosen very deliberately on our race vehicles. It’s an iconic design and the history behind it is so important to the modern Bronco.”
Up front, there’s a Frozen White grille, while the towhooks and standard steel bumper feature Code Orange. There’s also branding on the SUV’s front fenders that leave no doubt it’s a Bronco Stroppe Special Edition. Other features include Code Orange squared-off high-clearance fenders and removable side steps equipped with integrated rock rails.
Code Orange Interior Accents And A White Instrument Mid-Panel
Inside, the Bronco Stroppe Special Edition has a white instrument mid-panel, initially introduced in the Bronco Heritage. There’s also Code Orange accents throughout. This includes the “Bronco” branding on the dashboard, accents on the G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) mode dial bezel, and details within the grab handles. Code Orange contrast stitching is also found on the dash topper and seats. And each Stroppe Special Edition has model-specific badging on the center console.
Stroppe Special Edition Is Available Soon
Ford notes, “Today’s Bronco, with the G.O.A.T Modes and Sasquatch package, can trace its existence back to Bill Stroppe’s work.” We think that’s cool, and we think the Bronco Stroppe Special Edition is a fine way to honor Bill Stroppe and Bronco’s racing heritage.
The 2025 Bronco Stroppe Special Edition will be available in January 2025. Ford is also introducing a new line of merchandise based on the Bronco Stroppe Special Edition. The products, which include clothing and hats, are available for purchase at the Ford Merchandise store.
