Bryce Menzies will be the first of the Trophy Truck drivers to leave the start line of the 2013 Baja Friday morning at 9:00 am, but one of the biggest stories of this years race, no matter who wins this weekend’s 46th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, is that BJ Baldwin will be driving the race solo for the second time in a row.

Baldwin won the Baja 1000 last year, and hopes to do it all over again, with the victory this year. Baldwin ran the entire 1,120-mile “Peninsula Run” in 20 hours and 59 seconds.

the 883-mile loop course is the longest loop course ever run during the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, and starts and finishes in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. The course travels southeast to San Felipe on the Sea of Cortez, then heads south through the infamous Coco’s Corner, before turning back west toward the Pacific coast, up through Ojos Negros and back to Ensenada for the finish.

“It’s always good to be back in Mexico,” said BJ, “I love the enthusiasm of the fans and the many beautiful landscapes here. We’ve put in the hard work getting ready, it’s time to go out and take another win.”

Although Baldwin likes to be at the head of the pack so he knows how hard he has to push in order to win, he qualified 7th during time trials on Wednesday in his Monster Energy Toyo Tires Rigid Industries King Shocks Method Race Wheels Chevrolet. That start position still places him in a great position to command the race.
