Las Vegas has a particular sound on the Monday before SEMA, and it isn’t slot machines. It’s the beep of a forklift in reverse, the hiss of air tools, and the low, lumpy idle of something lifted, locked, and lettered creeping across a loading dock at walking pace. We’re here. The Off Road Xtreme crew has boots on the ground for the 2026 SEMA Show.
Setup day is the show before the show, and honestly, it might be our favorite part. The polish hasn’t gone on yet. Builds still wear a film of highway grime from the haul in, tires are getting aired back up, and somewhere a fabricator is hunched over a fender with a rag and a deadline. Booths that will look effortless by tomorrow morning are, right now, a glorious mess of crates, carpet rolls, extension cords, and people saying “a little to the left” with rising urgency.

And then the trucks roll through. A long-travel prerunner rides past on a rollback, bypass shocks catching the fluorescent light. A Jeep on 40s threads a dock door with about a finger’s width to spare on each side. A rock-crawling buggy that looks like it was drawn by someone who has never heard the word “comfort” gets pushed into place by four guys and a whole lot of optimism. Overlanders, Bronco builds, diesel haulers wearing more lights than a casino marquee. They just keep coming, and every one has a story about how it barely got finished in time.
That’s the thing about SEMA. Every build here is somebody’s year. Months of late nights, backordered parts, test drives that went sideways, and at least one moment when someone said, “We’re not going to make it.” They made it. For the next four days, the off-road world puts its best ideas on display, from one-off shop builds to the suspension, tires, lighting, and armor that will be bolted to rigs on your local trail by spring.

Our job this week is simple: walk every aisle, crawl under whatever they’ll let us, ask builders the questions you’d ask, and bring it all home to you. Expect build features, product launches, and plenty of things that make us stop mid-sentence and say, “Wait, go back.”
Tomorrow the doors swing open and the noise climbs by a few thousand voices. Today, it’s just us, the forklifts, and a building filling up with dirt-ready machines waiting for their moment. Stick with Off Road Xtreme all week.
