Sherwin-Williams is showcasing features of its unique paint finishes by teaming with NASCAR owner Richard Childress in a project that will support Ducks Unlimited with a limited run of tricked-out Chevy trucks.
The first of 25 limited edition Off-Road Signature Series was unveiled at SEMA and sports a special Ultra 7000 black-matte topcoat and 727 matte clearcoat finish created by Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, which supplies Richard Childress Racing with paint for its racecars. The trucks were built by American Luxury Coach and feature a hopped up supercharged engine, six-inch lift kit, aggressive fender flares, restyled hood, light bars, luxury interior, and off road tires. Purchase price is expected to be in the $70,000 to $80,000 range, depending on options.
Proceeds from sales of the 25 trucks will go to Duck Unlimited, a favorite wildlife organization that Childress has long supported.
“Hunting and conservation are very important to me, and my family. Ducks Unlimited does great work and this one-of-a-kind design is something we are very proud to be part of on this truck,” says Childress.

Upon first glance, the truck’s finish appears to be a wrap.
“Actually, that’s a compliment,” says David Kidd, a product manager at Sherwin-Williams, noting the difficulty of applying certain matte clearcoats to achieve uniform layers and a consistent appearance between coats. “Only a handful of painters can do it. But this clear is formulated to eliminate that problem.”
Also at the SEMA event, Sherwin-Williams debuted a Rod & Restoration color deck. Made from a series of optically enhanced automotive paints containing special combinations of highly reflective additives, the 200 new Rod & Restoration custom colors can offer radical, multi-dimensional finishes with color shifting and iridescent textures.
