Tim Moore of Poor Boys Diesel (PDB) took Keaton “The Muscle” Hoskins’ brand new 2024 Raptor R and added a massive shot of power in just one day. The project, however, wasn’t without its challenges, requiring some clever problem-solving to unlock the truck’s true potential.

Stock Shakedown And Dyno Drama

Before the tools came out, host Tim Moore was already impressed with the stock truck. He said, “I mean, out of the box, this truck drives like a sports car.” The initial plan was to get a baseline dyno number on Keaton’s 37-inch Toyo mud-terrain tires, but the aggressive tread made it impossible to get a clean reading. To get accurate data, the team had to borrow the stock wheels and tires from a friend’s Raptor R, a necessary step to measure the true gains from the upgrade.

Overcoming The Fuel Hurdle

With the new Whipple supercharger upgrade installed, the first pull on the dyno was disappointingly low, with the truck’s computer pulling a massive amount of ignition timing. The culprit was bad fuel in the tank. The Poor Boys Diesel team went the extra mile, dropping the tank, cleaning the entire fuel system, and refilling it with fresh 93 octane and a booster to ensure the engine could perform safely and make maximum power.

Unleashing The Power

With good fuel and proper tires, the Raptor R finally showed what it could do, spinning the rollers to just under 850 wheel horsepower. The final result was a massive increase over stock, with Moore confirming it was a gain of “more than 250 horsepower to the rear tires.” During the tuning, they also discovered a neat trick. He explained, “We did notice about a 20-horsepower difference on the dyno with taking that lid off.”

The final product was an absolute monster. Moore described the new driving experience enthusiastically, saying, “I mean, this thing is stupid fast.” His final verdict on the Whipple supercharger was clear, calling it the best bang for the buck modification for a Raptor R. He concluded that for a same-day, emissions-compliant upgrade that preserves the factory warranty and delivers such a huge power gain, there’s no better option on the market.
