When it comes to the world of desert racing, where victories are decided by mere seconds, raw power is no longer enough. The next frontier is strategy, and the team at Mason Motorsports just revealed a new Gen 2 Trophy Truck built from the ground up around a radical new philosophy for winning races before they even start.
The Mason Motorsports Strategy: Perfect Balance
The core principle behind the new truck is achieving a perfectly consistent weight balance from the green flag to the checkered flag. Neil from Mason Motorsports explained the complex theory. “We wanted to move the fuel up to the center of mass of the vehicle so that as the fuel load burns off, the balance of the truck percentage-wise does not change,” he said. To accomplish this, the team moved all the fixed-weight components, like fluid tanks and batteries, to the rear and placed the massive 145-gallon fuel cell directly in the center of the cab.
Winning in the Pits
This consistent handling allows the truck to carry more fuel safely, unlocking a massive strategic advantage. “Our goal with this truck is to be able to do San Felipe with no stops and the Baja 500 with one stop,” Neil stated. By eliminating lengthy pit stops for fuel, the team can gain huge amounts of track position without having to fight through another truck’s dust. As Neil wisely put it, “The easiest place to pass people is when they’re stopped.”
Innovative Engineering
The truck is packed with clever engineering, including a new three-piece lower control arm. “You can use the aluminum where you want the aluminum and you can have the steel strength where you want the steel,” Neil explained, describing how the modular arm is both lightweight and strong. This level of in-house engineering is considered to be a hallmark of Mason Motorsports, extending to the unique AWD transaxle and the advanced cooling system that tunnels air through the cab.
A Calculated Weapon for the Desert
This all-new trophy truck is being built for racing superstar Bryce Menzies. The plan is to campaign it for a full year to prove its performance and durability before building it for other customers.
But one thing is for sure. The Mason Motorsports Gen 2 All-Wheel-Drive Trophy Truck will bet it all on a new way to win in the desert and conquer any terrain: smarter engineering will beat raw horsepower.
