The Twitter-verse is usually filled with nonsense about some celebrity’s latest hookup or most recent near-arrest, but if you follow truck manufacturers like we do, you couldn’t have helped but notice the huge hint dropped recently on the Nissan USA Twitter page about the upcoming Cummins diesel powerplant infusion. The post “Five liters of turbocharged diesel power. Are you ready for this? #CUMMINSSOON” made us stop slouching in our chairs and pay attention.
If you recall, as we reported back in August 2013, Fred Diaz, Nissan’s VP of sales and marketing said, “We’re going to be the only ones to have a V8 diesel in a 1500 truck, which is a pretty neat space to play in because you’re actually going to be more powerful and bigger and have more capability than a 1500 but not quite at the level of a 2500.” That just about blew our socks off then, but there was no firm date, just talk of it appearing in the next-generation Titan.
So along comes this latest “hint” on Twitter and well, we were all abuzz. We have been dreaming of a robust diesel V8 in a half-ton pickup for years. The mere thought that it might be “soon” is almost to much to bear. All we can say, is “Please Hurry.” Just in case you’re wondering, Nissan is no novice when it comes to diesel-powered vehicles, it’s just been decades since you could easily get one in the USA.
