Old civil statutes that once upon a time had a purpose just don’t seem to make any sense at all today, and here’s a perfect example. As we’ve seen over and over again, the rules must change to reflect an ever-evolving society. Today, a truck is as common as a car when it comes to getting from A to B. However, nobody told that to the Valley View subdivision of Wildwood, Missouri subdivision where Matt Perry lives.
After Perry saved up his own money and brought home his new-to-him 1965 Ford F-100 pickup that was also his first car, he was greeted with some unwelcome news. As reported on Fox2 News in St. Louis, Missouri, Perry’s subdivision outlaws trucks of all shapes and forms. The rules go on to dictate that a truck (of any kind) can only be parked outside of a house a maximum of four times overnight in a single year.
This might be understandable if they want to keep out commercial vehicles because they might drag down the image of the neighborhood. However, outlawing all trucks is downright ridiculous. It seems to us that somebody in the homeowners association is just being self righteous and enjoys spending their days micro-managing the lives of others.
In theory, the trustees say that this rule will uphold property values. They even released some propaganda depicting snow plow trucks and other commercial vehicles dragging dollars out of homeowner’s pockets. In order to overcome these ancient rules, the 16-year-old owner of the pristine pickup truck has been obligated to collect 130 signatures (two thirds of the neighborhood) or face the consequences.
What do you think? Should the rules be changed? Sound off in the comments below!
