Wouldn’t it be great if crystal balls worked? Perhaps even those magic 8-balls they sell at dollar stores, or just something that could give you a glimpse of the future so you could avoid a gnarly wreck like this?
Of course it would. Chances are the driver of this 2000 Ford Excursion was kicking himself the whole ride home after a trail rollover claimed his big, burly SUV. If only he’d picked a different line, used a spotter, or even just skipped the event altogether and stayed home–maybe things would have been different.
Unfortunately, that isn’t what happened, and now the rig sits in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, its 6.8L V10 and Terra Grappler tires all but useless. Still, judging by the severity of the accident, the story behind this Excursion’s downfall will likely become the stuff of legend for its owner.
The wealth of images posted to Insurance Auto Auctions, where the Ford is posted online, show a great deal of the damage suffered to the poor 4×4. Sans roll bar or any kind of cage, the roof is nothing but pancaked steel by now.
The rest of the body is poor shape as well, from the dimpled hood to the misshapen doors to the dented D-pillars. We can’t make a judgement call on the interior, but it appears some personal items were left in the back for whatever reason.
It’s hard to look past all the destruction done to the SUV and think there might be something worthwhile left behind–tires? Engine? Tranmission? What would you do if you were at the auction and saw this Excursion pop up? Let us know in the comments below.
