INEOS Automotive officially joined forces with SMT Defence and NMS UK to create Team Grenadier, proposing a heavily modified INEOS Grenadier platform for the upcoming Light Mobility Vehicle program.

The strategic collaboration keeps all design work, engineering updates, and secondary manufacturing entirely within the United Kingdom. Builders started the project using the standard INEOS Grenadier, taking full advantage of the tough ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel drive, and heavy-duty beam axles as a strong mechanical foundation. SMT Defence then steps in to design mission-specific setups, focusing heavily on high payload capacities and crew survivability for elite military units. NMS UK handles the actual large-scale production and fleet support, applying its extensive background in armored vehicle development. INEOS Automotive Chief Commercial Officer Mike Whittington stated: “A defining advantage of the industrial collaboration is its British ownership, onshore assembly and local supply chain.”

First responders, police units, and rescue crews across the globe already drive the standard commercial platform through harsh environments every single day. The newly proposed Multi-Role Light Vehicle serves as just one of nine modular applications built specifically for active military service. This structural flexibility gives the Ministry of Defence multiple configuration options for different tactical environments while maintaining straightforward maintenance protocols across the entire ground fleet. Whittington added: “Grenadier’s unrivalled capability and inherent strength provide an obvious starting point for mission-critical transport.”

Equipping a modern military force requires heavy hardware that domestic workers can build, modify, and maintain without ever relying on complicated international supply lines. Keeping the entire production process and ongoing mechanical support inside the country gives the defense sector complete operational independence over its most important ground transport fleet. If the government officially approves this new defense partnership, thousands of active service members will soon find themselves driving an INEOS Grenadier across local training grounds and demanding overseas deployments.
