VIDEO: The Rage Comet-Two Seats, Four Wheels, and 200HP All in One

The concept of off-road buggies is certainly nothing new, but thanks to the wild minds at Rage Motorsport, these fun little off-roaders seem to have come full circle. Rage really took its name seriously when creating the little monster seen here, the R200RT Comet R, so named for its ability to kick up so much dirt or smoke that it resembled a screaming comet.

It’s a speed demon from across “The Pond,” crafted from the dreams of a couple of Englishmen based out of Bedfordshire. The company has been stretching its field of expertise since 2000 to include figures like the late Colin McRae and competitions like DAKAR, always on the cutting edge of development to offer some bad-ass rides.

Based on Rage’s RT180T, the RT200T kicks thing up a notch by doing what all performance applications do: lose weight, and add a boost to horsepower and torque. It starts with a powdercoated 1.5-inch tubular space frame chassis, made using MIG and TIG welding. Mated to this sturdy skeleton are the axles, with a more-than-capable suspension system comprised of Rage’s custom-made, adjustable, gas-charged shocks and struts.

At the heart of the Comet is the Kawasaki 1352cc 16V engine, capable of 200 HP, paired with a Quaife six-speed sequential transmission. What this translates to is a vehicle that can accelerate to 60 MPH in under four seconds, and top out at over 120 MPH; after all, the Comet only weighs 1,227 pounds dry. Even with its 10-gallon fuel tank filled up and ready to rock, it’s still just 1,287 pounds, roughly.

Yet perhaps the best part about this two-seater is that it’s perfectly street legal (for England, at least; lucky dogs!). With a quick swap of wheels and tires, it’s ready to go anywhere and do its thing, be it autocross or motocross.

If you ever happen to make your way to the United Kingdom, be sure to stop at any of over a dozen rental centers that allow you to take the Comet for a joy ride–it’ll be one you won’t soon forget. Find more about the bad-ass buggy on Rage’s website, and show your support for the awesome rides by giving the company a Like on Facebook too.
