Us off-roaders are not immune to the charms of drifting and doing doughnuts, but we like to make sure we’re in the right environment when doing so. Dirt, sand, snow, and mud are a lot more forgiving to an SUV or truck in terms of traction and momentum in these cases, but one unfortunate soul just couldn’t wait to go off-road, and paid the price for it.
Piloting his XJ around a populated parking lot in an unknown location, the driver gets off to a lucky start. He’s able to keep his wheels pointed in the right direction, course-correcting before he gets too close to a curb, car, or other obstacle. At the 0:05 mark, he’s even able to pull off a dubious 180º whip-around, in what appears to be the most exciting of the stunts.
That’s when it all takes a literal turn for the worst. Immediately following the J-turn, we see the driver and his Jeep skidding down an open stretch of asphalt. A subtle turn to the right causes the tires to come off the ground a little too much, and the driver has zero time to react before things go very wrong.
The SUV takes its tumble at the 0:11 mark, flipped 90 degrees to the left and scraping the ground before physical forces complete the flip, leaving the now-trashed vehicle upright and looking a little worse for wear.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt, not even the driver, but the world is less one more bone-stock XJ that could’ve been put to better use outside of the asphalt jungle. If you could say something to this numbskull, what would it be? Voice your support or lecture in the comments below.
