Video: RAM 1500 REV Debuts At NYIAS 2023

For electric truck fans, today was a big day in New York City with the formal debut of RAM’s 1500 REV pickup truck at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) Stellantis teased pictures of the production version last month and now with the reveal in the Big Apple, more details and specs are coming into focus.

The Ram 1500 REV electric pickup, set to release in 2025, will have more conservative sheet metal than the Revolution concept truck and aims to outdo its competitors with a targeted range of 500 miles with its largest battery pack. The standard battery pack is 168-kWh and has a range target of up to 350 miles, while the optional 229-kWh pack aims for up to 500 miles. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares also announced plans for an extended-range version (see Chevrolet Volt) with a gasoline engine to charge the battery. There was a big stage spectacle with lights and video to usher in this new-era pickup truck.

Stellantis is entering the electric pickup market later than its competitors, but executives believe this has allowed them to assess the competition and aim to surpass them in areas such as range, towing, payload, and charge time. The REV’s 229-kWh battery pack has a 500-mile range and a targeted towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, exceeding current market offerings. Chevrolet aims for 20,000 pounds of towing for its 2025 Silverado EV work truck variant.

The REV targets a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, 654 hp, and 620 pound-feet of torque. It can forge up to 24 inches of water and carry a maximum payload of 2,700 pounds. The REV’s design is influenced by the Revolution concept truck that debuted at CES in Las Vegas. However, its body shape is closer to its conventional gasoline counterparts. The interior features multiple screens and ambient lighting.  Some Revolution concept features were left out, such as removable third-row jump seats and Ram Track. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said concept vehicles allow automakers to “show the way and free our imaginations,” even if not all ideas make it into production right away.

The REV is built on the new STLA Frame platform for full-size body-on-frame EVs. Both battery options can recharge up to 110 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes using 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kilowatts. The REV lineup includes five trim levels, with the Tungsten at the top, featuring a power tailgate and a 23-speaker sound system. The frunk offers 15 cubic feet of storage for items you want to stow out of sight.

Buyers can choose between a 12-inch or 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch passenger-side touchscreen for controlling navigation and viewing exterior cameras. Connecting a phone or tablet to the HDMI port allows the passenger touch screen to mirror the device and project internet searches, music, and app use through the Uconnect 5 system. The REV also features a hands-free active driving assist system. Preorders are available here.
