Rockstar Energy is rightly proud of its star performer, Rob MacCachren. As a true living legend of the off-road world, the man, now 48 years old, has been leaving his mark upon the dirt, rocks and sand for more than 30 years, garnering hundreds of wins in multiple classes and categories.
As a tribute to the champion, Rockstar Energy has now started uploading videos to YouTube about the man, his drive, and his life as a winner. Such a biography is long overdue for “Mac,” so we’re glad to see it’s finally getting done.
MacCachren was born on March 24, 1965, to an off-roading enthusiast family who supported his motorcycling around the Mojave Desert in the early ’70s. The boy’s first win dates back to 1973, when he won 1st place in the Nevada State Motorcycle Championship.
As a young man, he could be found rambling about in the SNORE races, where he proved yet again his prowess by conquering several buggy events, including winning six consecutive races on the way to taking the championship in 1985. It was the beginning of his meteoric rise to the heights of off-road Olympus.
Fast forward to today, and MacCachren is approaching 300 wins with his Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series Pro 2 and Pro 4 truck; as well as his recently-acquired SCORE desert-racing Trophy trucks. “He still has that drive to just go out there and kick everyone’s ass,” says fellow racer Bryce Menzies.
The crew chief, veteran builder Jim Blackmore, has known MacCachren since 1991 during the SCORE racing days of Ford Racing’s Rough Rider program. Central to his devotion to the team is the aggressiveness he shares with the driver: “It’s nice when you’re working on a vehicle, that you know that [he]…wants to win just as much as you do.”
At home, the man makes the best of things with his girlfriend and manager Amber Malloy, as well as his four children. It’s a stressful life, working out what’s broken on the vehicles, keeping tabs on competitors, and getting ready for the next race; thankfully though, Mac makes it work, taking time to head back to his house in Las Vegas to mess around with the kids.
We can’t wait to see what Episode 2 brings, but it looks like it will be another couple of weeks or so. Until then, peruse Rockstar Energy Motorsports’ YouTube page for more awesome footage, and be sure like its Facebook page.
