Toyota has yet to announce the next generation of 4Runner, but there’s still plenty of popularity to spare for the current, 5th generation model. Proof of this comes from TONKA, makers of the famed miniature trucks and sponsor of short-course racers like Myan Spaccarelli. A recent unveiling of the TONKA 4Runner is now making waves.
Onlookers were stunned by the TONKA take on a familiar four-wheeler, from its high-lifted, Bulletproof Suspensions-provided stance to its bold yellow-on-black body wrap. Spacarelli’s home in Simi Valley, California played host to the event, and had plenty of space for the T4R to get in some good, old-fashioned trouble.
If the appearance on this 4Runner looks familiar to some other vehicles you may have seen, that’s because it’s by design. In the past, TONKA has also put it spin on the 4Runner’s trucking cousins, the T-Rex and Tundra.
“We’re very excited to continue our partnership with Toyota in adding the TONKA 4Runner to our TONKA-tough family of trucks,” said Kathy Hawk, Vice President of Marketing. “Creating a life-size TONKA takes passion and creativity and, once again, our team created an awe-worthy vehicle.”
The creation of the 4Runner was thanks to several companies. Such names as Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels, King Shocks, Smittybilt, Rigid Industries, Hi-Lift, and others had a hand in making this SUV come to life. All told, the vehicle now sits 10 inches taller than before, thanks mainly to Bullet Suspensions and Mickey Thompson’s 38-inch Baja MTZ tires.
The TONKA treatment definitely adds a lot to whatever it touches; would you want to do it to your own ride? Or would you rather let the kids be kids and let the men be men? Tell us what you think in the comments.
