If you thought the Nissan Frontier PRO-4X already had the chops to tackle tough trails, things just got a lot more exciting. Roush Performance—the same crew behind some of the most legendary performance trucks and supercharged muscle machines—has teamed up with Nissan for the very first time. The result is the 2026 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X R by Roush, a midsize truck that combines Nissan’s rugged DNA with Roush’s engineering muscle to create something purpose-built for adventure.
2026 Frontier PRO-4X R: Built For The Trail, Tuned By Roush
At the center of this new package is a suspension system that Roush co-developed with Öhlins. It’s not just a basic lift kit. Instead, it’s a carefully tuned setup designed to handle real-world punishment. The Roush Performance x Öhlins 2.0 Off-Road Suspension System lifts and levels the truck by two inches, improving approach and departure angles while giving the Frontier a bolder stance. The system includes custom Roush-engineered upper control arms and two-inch coilover shocks with external reservoirs. The dampers feature 18mm steel shafts, lightweight aluminum bodies, and the rear shocks offer cooling fins, which work to keep performance consistent even on long, brutal runs off-road. To make sure everything holds up under serious abuse, Roush put the suspension through more than 125,000 miles of 329-rig durability simulation testing.
Aggressive New Styling
The upgrades don’t stop with the suspension. The PRO-4X R rolls out on 265/70R17 Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme tires wrapped around 17-inch off-road wheels finished in titanium and stamped with Roush’s “R” logo. A titanium-painted skid plate and grille inserts add both protection and style, while Lava Red tow hooks stand out as functional trail-ready accents. New badging on the grille, tailgate, and fenders gives the Frontier PRO-4X R a look that’s unmistakably Roush. Inside, the cabin carries the same theme with custom-embroidered seats that bring a bit of performance flair to the interior. The result is a truck that looks as serious as it performs.
The Roush x Nissan Connection
This collaboration makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Nissan’s Frontier has a long history as an off-road capable midsize truck, but teaming up with Roush adds a performance-driven edge that takes it to another level. As Jack Roush Jr., VP Brand at Roush, explained, “We’ve taken decades of automotive engineering experience and developed performance components for the Nissan Frontier platform. The Frontier is a proven midsize truck, and we’re thrilled to partner with Nissan to offer this new trim to the world.”
2026 Frontier PRO-4X R Price And Availability
With a starting price of $47,960, the 2026 Frontier PRO-4X R by Roush offers a lot of performance for the money, especially considering that all Roush components are backed by a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. That means you can push it hard off-road without worrying about whether the upgrades will hold up.
