The 50th anniversary of the Baja 1000 is right around the corner in 2017, but SCORE did not hold anything back for the 2016 season. SCORE has come out with a five round season for next year including a brand new event, and keeping the entire season in Baja.
Keeping the races in Baja shows that desert racing is here to stay, South of the border. There has some been talk about what would happen with the series since the passing of Oscar Ramos. Roger Norman is not holding anything back and expects the 2017 season to be even better.
“We are constantly pursuing our vision with the SCORE World Desert Championship and the 2016 schedule reflects our commitment to grow SCORE beyond its own limits to a new level of impact in the motorsports world,” said Roger Norman, CEO and President of SCORE International. “Mexican races are the cornerstone of SCORE and to have all five races South of the border for the first time in SCORE history is an honor and a privilege that will add immeasurably to the SCORE Baja racing legacy.”
Roger Norman is continuing his push to bring desert racing to main stream media. All races in the 2015 SCORE World Desert Championship series, along with the special SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and qualifying for the Bud Light SCORE Baja 1000 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway will once again be aired in the USA and Canada on the CBS Sports Network.
SCORE also announced that it has reached an agreement with the Carbon Media Group to distribute all of the SCORE television race broadcasts, short form video series and archival race programs on a dedicated SCORE channel on Carbon TV beginning in 2016.
The 2016 season is laid out with fiver rounds, taking place approximately every other month.
- Round One – 30th Bud Light SCORE San Felipe 250, Feb. 25-28
- Round Two – 2nd Bud Light SCORE Baja Sur 500, April 14-17
- Round Three – 48th Bud Light SCORE Baja 500, June 1-5
- Round Four – Bud Light SCORE Desert Challenge, Sept. 14-18
- Round Five – 49th Bud Light SCORE Baja 1000, Nov. 16-20
The most exciting part of the 2016 season is the all-new Desert Challenge in Rosarito Beach. Norman said, “This new addition will feature 35 mile loops along the great beach scenery. A lot of the activities will happen at Papas and Beer in Rosarito.”
The 2016 SCORE season will definitely be something to watch leading up to the 2017 season as Roger Norman and SCORE continue to push the limits of desert racing and the series to new heights. Which race are you most excited to watch? Tell us in the comments below!
