The JL is changing the way people look at Jeeps. For the first time ever, a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four is now an option, and Superchips is taking full advantage of one such Wrangler to develop fresh tunes for the platform.

Although the project is still in development, we got the chance to talk with Superchips’ Jacob White about how things are going and what’s next. “We’re excited to take the 2.0-liter to the next level,” he said. “So far, we’ve dynoed the Jeep and seen that it’s pretty comparable to the 3.6-liter V6 in terms of horsepower. But the 2.0-liter does better at torque.”

On the dyno, the stock 2.0-liter I4 made respectable numbers: 231 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Superchips can’t wait to boost those numbers with new tunes coming soon.

In fact, a recent dyno graph from Superchips shows just how potent the 2.0-liter is. The results showed it made 231 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which is quite substantial. It can only mean good things for the potential tunes that Superchips is working on.

“Right now, we’re developing a Crawl tune, a Performance tune, and an Economy tune for this platform,” said White. “The Crawl tune will make the throttle less sensitive. That way it won’t get away from the driver while crawling over rocks and obstacles. The other two tunes are self-explanatory. Performance will target better power on higher-octane gasoline, while Economy will optimize fuel mileage.”

The tuning process will take time, but coupled with it is a sweet Wrangler build. As seen on recent posts on the Superchips website, the team is considering multiple renderings for the final product, but all of them look awesome.
