How long have we waited for a Jeep pickup to come back into the market again? I don’t mean the Comanche, which, unfortunately was a little weak, and never became a sales success, but a full-size pickup, or a maybe a Wrangler-pickup variant. Well in our opinion, it has been far too long. Sure, you can get a conversion from any number of companies such as AEV, but we want a real live factory roller.
Well, that day may have come. While on a trail in Moab yesterday scouting out locations to use for feature vehicles we were planning on photographing the next morning, we ran across a group of guys that were … well, put it this way, they had that way too clean cut and uptight look that comes with being engineers who have just been startled by three people showing up where they didn’t think anyone would be. Know what I mean?
While none of them had any identifying clothing on, and wouldn’t admit it, there were far too many notebooks, belt-clipped hand-held radios, and iPads among them to be anything but just that. In addition, when we whipped out a camera, these guys got really nervous, and asked us to please leave and not shoot any photos. So we acquiesced.
However, while they were talking to two of us, the third member of our small expeditionary party snuck a single cell phone shot (seen above) from the inside of his slightly unzipped coat to get this shot of what appears to be a new Jeep Wrangler pickup concept.
The really strange part was that this vehicle was not one of the seven new concepts that Jeep officially unveiled at Moab this year. So what the heck did we see that got us chased off politely?
