With 48 competitors battling for position in the race near Congress, Arizona, the Nitto Tire National Championship, held September 29, 2013 at Thunder Rock Off Road Ranch, was the final match that determined who would take the top Ultra4 spots for the year.

To cross the finish line, each rig had to mob through five laps of a 16-mile course. The course was a treacherous combination of open desert and rock-crawl sections that were specifically designed for the Ultra4 cars. Current series points for each of the drivers determined their starting position for this race. Every 30 seconds, a competitor launched off the line.
First to take the checkered flag was Wayland Campbell, Shannon Campbell’s 17-year old son. He started the race only 77 points behind his father and ended the race on the third-place stand of the podium after corrected time. Jason Scherer and Rick Mooneyham followed close behind after breaking through from the middle of the race pack. Final corrected time found Scherer in first and Mooneyham behind him by only 5 seconds because of a 20-second penalty Scherer received for missing an obstacle course.
The championship was clinched for Shannon Campbell with an eighth-place finish, garnering him enough points to take the series first-place spot. Wayland Campbell was only 44 points shy of his father and took the second-place position, and Jason Blanton rounded out the top three.
