This year’s 21st SCORE Desert Challenge is the first event in SCORE’s 40 plus year history that a race started and end in Tijuana, Mexico. RPM Racing is quickly becoming a top contender in the desert racing scene, and this event they swept the SCORE Trophy Truck class. Not only did they dominate the Trophy Truck class, but a fourth RPM driver also won the SCORE TT Legend class.
Contenders from all across the US and 14 other countries came to the three-day event. The majority of the teams racing finished the race on Sunday after racing the first half of the event on Saturday. Some teams did race strictly on Friday in a two-part session which included motorcycles, ATVs, and a few car/truck classes as a way to open the event.
RPM had massive success at the recent SCORE race, when was the last time you have seen a team take the podium.
Josh Daniel from RPM Racing was a substitute driver for Justin Matney and he started fourth in the first half of the race. Josh was driving the No. 4 Geiser Bros built 4WD truck and during the race, he was able to hold off all of his teammates to take home his first career win in the SCORE Trophy Truck class.
Who said off-road isn't a contact sport was lying!
“We’re here number one. We drove for Justin Matney. It’s his truck, he couldn’t make it this weekend. He’s my partner for the BFGoodrich Tires 50th SCORE Baja 1000 and I’m stoked to be here for RPM Racing and put it together. I had to keep a tight pace with Apdaly. He’s super good, he’s super fast. He’s a champion. He’s a champ for a reason so you just can’t let him run away with it. He had to put three minutes on us today. He could do that, not easily, but he could. I knew that unless he had a problem I wasn’t going to catch him.” said Josh after the race.
Congrats to RPM Racing for an excellent finish and congrats to Josh for taking home his first career win in the SCORE Trophy Truck class. We’re looking forward to how RPM Racing progresses.
