Rock On: Edelbrock Superchargers Give Jeeps Extra Power

As the eminent off-road machines that they are, Jeep Wranglers are made for conquering terrain. As such, they enjoy near endless modifications that make it a powerhouse for off-roading. Yet, sometimes the power gets left by the wayside, since those same modifications tend to pack on pounds. Before long, the 4×4 feels more sluggish than it used to be. Fortunately, Edelbrock superchargers are a straightforward and easy way to restore lost power on these vehicles.

We spoke with Edelbrock’s Forced Induction Product Manager, David Page, to hear more about what Edelbrock supercharger systems bring to the table. “Simply put, our supercharger kits are the simplest, most reliable way to possibly add over 100 horsepower to these amazing vehicles,” he said.

As a bolt-on installation, Edelbrock’s supercharger systems are a great way to add more power to late-model Jeeps.

Page touched on the cause-and-effect of Jeep modifications and how the Edelbrock supercharger systems address the issue. “When Jeep owners add the rotational weight of larger tires and static weight of accessories, their vehicles become underpowered,” he said. “Our supercharger kits fix the problems while preserving reliability. We also back up the reliability by offering a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. No other engine modification can offer that.”

Through dyno testing, Edelbrock proved that its supercharger systems drastically improve performance on late-model Jeeps. They saw up to 330 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels, constituting a 40-percent and 35-percent improvement, respectively.

On the dyno, a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL made 330 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. This was all thanks to an Edelbrock supercharger.

The design features that go into Edelbrock’s supercharger systems are what make these gains possible. “Our kits feature an integrated bypass valve, allowing the supercharger to maintain engine efficiency while cruising,” explained Page. “This reduces stress on the engine and preserves fuel economy while the supercharger is not being ‘called on.’ Furthermore, the inlet designs on our superchargers are designed to optimize airflow while maintaining the structural integrity of the unit. This means the customer gets both power and reliability.”

Another feature of these superchargers is the air-to-water intercooler system. “All of our superchargers come designed with efficient air-to-water intercoolers,” said Page. “The intercooler core inside the supercharger housing has coolant circulated through it that has passed through a heat exchanger mounted behind the vehicle’s grille. The air moving through the supercharger passes through this intercooler core, cooling the air charge. And with cooler air temperature, you get enhanced reliability and power.”

As you can see, Edelbrock’s supercharger system is comprehensive. Included are hoses, hardware, intercooler, wiring, gaskets, and more.

All of this sounds great, but what does it take to actually install these supercharger kits? Page stated that the level of know-how and tool requirements for installation is definitely doable. “One of the key selling points on our superchargers is that a person with basic tools and mechanical ability can install these kits in their garage or driveway in a day,” he said. “It really is a great power upgrade for the average enthusiast!”

For Jeep owners that want noticeable, real power restored to their laggy Wrangler, Edelbrock supercharger systems are a viable solution. It provides added power when needed and, thanks to its integrated bypass valve, it stays out of the way when driving around town.
