Yesterday, we gave you a peek inside the mind and plans of Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat S.p.A. and Chairman and CEO of Chrysler Group LLC for the Jeep brand. Now we have gathered some bits and pieces of information from the that same Tuesday morning Auburn, Michigan meeting about the Ram truck brand and can shed some light on what is planned for that arm of the company over the next five or so years.
President and CEO of Ram Trucks, Reid Bigland tlaked about the brand and said that the company expects an increase in sales volume of approximately 34 percent over the next five years. In North America, about 463,000 Ram trucks and vans are currently being sold every year, but by 2018 the division fully intends to score a little better than the 600,000 mark.
When it comes to the Ram line of pickup trucks alone, the heavy duty line was said to get an update in 2016 and again in 2018. There was no word what those updates would be–we are sort of hoping these would be in the way of better interiors and modern exterior designs, as those are a bit dated.
The light duty line is set for a minor update in 2015 and major update in 2017, but could use could use revitalization in the same two areas as the heavy duty line in our opinion, as these have already seen great strides in small-displacement diesel and suspension design.
