Ram is continuing to push deeper into the off-road truck segment with the debut of the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry, a new package that delivers trail-ready capability and bold styling without stepping into the higher price territory of trims like the Rebel. Positioned between the Warlock and Rebel in the Ram off-road hierarchy, the BackCountry builds on the Ram 1500 Big Horn 4×4 Crew Cab, combining factory-installed off-road hardware with distinctive design cues and a durable, adventure-ready interior.

“The off-road segment has been growing for a while now and Ram has been leading that charge with Warlock, Rebel, RHO and TRX,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance, NA Marketing and Retail Strategy. “BackCountry is another option from Ram for customers looking to get into this growing part of the market without breaking the bank.”

By expanding its mid-tier offerings, Ram aims to capture buyers who want legitimate off-road capability straight from the factory, but who may not need—or want to pay for—the higher-end models in the brand’s lineup.

Trail Capability Built Into The Package

The BackCountry package enhances the Big Horn’s capability by incorporating many of the brand’s proven off-road components. A 1-inch suspension lift paired with heavy-duty shock absorbers improves ground clearance and trail composure, while a set of 32-inch off-road tires mounted to Satin Black 18-inch aluminum wheels adds traction and an aggressive stance.

Underbody protection is handled by a series of skid plates that shield the front underbody, power steering rack, transfer case and fuel tank, helping safeguard critical components when navigating rocky terrain. For situations where traction becomes limited, the truck features a rear electronic locking differential (ELocker) that can also operate as an anti-spin system when disengaged.

Additional off-road functionality comes in the form of front tow hooks for recovery scenarios and Selec-Speed off-road cruise control, which automatically manages throttle and braking during low-speed crawling to help drivers maintain steady control on difficult terrain.

A Blacked-Out Off-Road Look

The BackCountry distinguishes itself visually with a mix of body-color accents and dark exterior elements that create a purposeful, off-road-inspired appearance.

The truck features body-color grille surrounds and trim pieces, contrasted by Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat lower body panels and bumpers that deliver a darker two-tone aesthetic. Black fender flares provide added protection while enhancing the truck’s stance, and Satin Black finishes on the wheels, badging and lighting bezels reinforce the truck’s rugged identity.

A Satin Black BackCountry emblem on the tailgate completes the exterior look, clearly marking this truck as one built for life beyond the pavement.

Durable Interior For Real-World Use

Inside, Ram designed the BackCountry’s cabin with durability and functionality in mind. Black vinyl bucket seats with alloy printed mesh inserts offer a tough, easy-to-clean surface suited for outdoor use, while standard front and rear all-weather rubber floor mats help protect the interior from dirt, mud and water tracked in after a day on the trail.

Practical storage solutions are also part of the package. A MOLLE panel seatback storage system provides flexible space to secure gear, tools or trail equipment, and BackCountry badging on the passenger-side instrument panel adds a subtle nod to the truck’s identity.

Technology And Comfort Options

The BackCountry package is available on the Ram 1500 Big Horn 4×4 Crew Cab when paired with either the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group, allowing buyers to tailor the truck’s comfort and technology features.

The Level 1 Equipment Group introduces convenience upgrades such as heated front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals and second-row in-floor storage bins. Exterior additions include power-folding heated mirrors with auto-dimming capability, LED courtesy lamps and a rear power sliding window with defrost.

Choosing the Level 2 Equipment Group brings additional tech and driver-focused features, including a 7-inch instrument cluster display and a 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with configurable drive modes and Off-Road Info Pages that provide trail performance data. Other features include a 10-way power driver seat with lumbar support, class-exclusive dual wireless charging pads, dual-zone climate control, a power tailgate release and a 9-speaker amplified sound system.

Powertrain Options And Pricing

Buyers can choose between two available engines. The familiar 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with eTorque remains available for those who prefer traditional V-8 power, while the 3.0-liter Hurricane SO twin-turbo inline-six offers a modern combination of efficiency and strong performance.

The BackCountry package carries a price of $2,995 and can be added to the Ram 1500 Big Horn with either equipment group and engine option. Orders for the 2026 Ram 1500 BackCountry are now open, with starting pricing at $62,410 including destination when paired with the Big Horn Level 1 Equipment Group.
