Remember when a few key transmission upgrades helped transform our classic Blazer into a far more snappy driving machine? Since this Blazer update, TCI Automotive, your one-stop transmission shifting specialist shop, has been busy focusing on the off-road market. The end result is what you see here: the Outlaw Off-Road Shifter. It’s a product that caters to the needs of off-roaders; let’s found out how.
The Outlaw Off-Road Shifter is unique in that it eliminates the reverse lockout feature found on many aftermarket shifters. By relying upon an all-new gate plate design, TCI has developed a product that allows the driver to slap their vehicle into reverse on the fly, while preventing the risk of accidentally shifting into park due to a park lockout feature.

Transmissions currently supported include the GM Powerglide, GM 350/400, GM 4L60E/4L80E, GM 700R4, Ford C4/C6, Ford AOD, and Chrysler 727/904.
Shifting swiftly up and down is facilitated via a trigger in the pistol-grip handle, a simple yet effective approach to gear selection. This means off-road enthusiasts can quickly jump back and forth between first and reverse for increased control when rockcrawling or in tight terrain.
Standing at just over 2.1 inches wide and 10.3 inches long, the TCI Outlaw Off-Road Shifter is perfectly proportioned and comes complete with a powder coated cover, quick release pins, a cable, and all necessary vehicle specific hardware required for installation. At the moment, this shifter is compatible with popular GM, Ford, and Chrysler automatic transmissions with two-, three-, and four-speed gearing.
Trent Goodwin, marketing and media coordinator for the COMP Performance Group, tells us that this shifter is also the first of its kind for the company. “The TCI Outlaw Off-Road Shifter is the first easy to use, gated shifter to totally focus on the unique shift requirements of off-roaders, rock crawlers and trail riders,” he said.
