Silver Sport Transmissions is celebrating the off-road way of life with a surprise announcement. The Rockford, Tennessee-based company is now offering Tremec TR-4050 transmissions for a wide variety of engines, and is sure to become a new best friend to any off-roader that loves a rock-solid manual transmission.
The first gear starts at a 6.16:1 ratio, making it a low-range beast for rock crawling. The reverse gear is similarly low-range, at 6.03:1. And this gearbox still has the goods to provide a good time on asphalt – at 5th gear, the ratio is .76:1 overdrive, making sure your rig doesn’t feel super-sluggish when all you want is high speed.
SST also offers an optional short-throw shifter called the STX, which borrows from the street/track/autocross discipline to provide a shorter throw and tighter feel. The shifter travels 20-percent less space from gear to gear, and can stand up to abuse thanks to an all-metal design. It makes for a great combination with the 4050’s multiple shift rails and internals offer terrific shift feel and performance. What’s more, the TR-4050 is fully synchronized, making shifting smooth between gears.
Right now, the TR-4050 can be ordered to fit a multitude of engines. These include the Cummins 4BTs and 6BTs, Coyote 5.0L V8s, Windsor small-block V8s, small-block and big-block Chevy V8s, LS V8s, and Mopar and Gen III Hemi V8s. To find out more, go ahead and check out SST’s website and Facebook page.
