There was a recent recall that came out for GM’s one and done Hummer H3T pickup truck in regards to an issue with the HVAC electrical connector. The connector in can eventually overheat and lead to an interior fire.
The Hummer H3T does not seem to be the only truck that is having this issue. The first generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon which are built on the same platform in Shreveport, Louisiana as the H3T have the issue as well.
With personally experience with this issue in my 2005 GMC Canyon, I can say there is a major problem with the connector. Multiple Colorado and Canyon owners have also complained about the issue, with many more fixing the issue already.
The problem is with the factory resistor plug for the HVAC. It has a tendency to burn out, and ruin the connections. The easiest way to tell if your vehicle is having the issue, is to turn the air conditioning on and cycle through the speeds. If the air only blows on setting one and four, with no air on two and three, there is an issue with the connector.
Fixing a problem on a vehicle usually takes replacing it with a similar part from the same vehicle manufacture but there seems to be a fix for the GM issue using a Toyota electrical connector.
The people over at 355nation have more information on the issue and possible solutions for remedying the problem. There has been no official announcement for the recall expanding to the Colorado and Canyon, but it could also affect the similar SUV platforms; Chevy TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy.
