Following off-road desert races as a spectator often means relying on scattered updates or just catching brief glimpses of vehicles blasting past. A new partnership between Optima Batteries and the father-son team behind Racing Redefined aims to fix that by bringing detailed, live race information directly to fans’ smartphones.

Racing Redefined, founded by experienced off-road racer Christopher Polvoorde and his father Chip, identified the need for better real-time data access during sprawling desert events.

“Off-road racing can be difficult to spectate,” Chip Polvoorde explained. “With today’s technology and help from Optima Batteries, we can bring a lot more information directly to the fans and make things easier to follow along.” Their solution centers around the newly launched Racing Redefined mobile app.

Optima Batteries threw its support behind the platform’s development and rollout. The Racing Redefined app, now available for both Apple and Android devices, integrates several key features designed to enhance the fan experience. It offers live map tracking, allowing users to see where specific competitors are on the race course in real time.

Perhaps most significantly, the app provides corrected timing data from the start to the finish line, generating live leaderboards based on actual time elapsed, not just the physical order of vehicles. Fans can also set up push notifications to follow their favorite drivers’ progress and access event schedules and information within the app.

The platform underwent its first major public beta test during the Legacy Racing Association’s Battleground event in Laughlin, Nevada (April 12–13). Focusing initially on the Unlimited Truck class, the app received positive feedback overall from users testing the new features.

Cam Douglass, Optima’s director of marketing, highlighted the significance of the live corrected timing, calling the app a potential “game-changer” and noting, “This is the first time in my career where I’ve been able to follow an accurate leaderboard with corrected time throughout the entire race.”

Following the successful initial tests of the Racing Redefined app, Racing Redefined and Optima Batteries plan to implement the live streaming and tracking service at more Legacy Racing Association events in the future.

Their collaboration seeks to leverage technology to make the excitement of off-road racing much more accessible and engaging for fans trying to follow the action across different terrains and landscapes.
