The clocktower bell rings, all the finals and presentations are done, and kids walk off campus for that last time. Now into the real world–jobs, interviews, and new vehicles. Autotrader recently released the top ten cars for grads, some fine choices and some some not-so-fine choices. The most disappointing part? Only one of the automobiles has any semblance of off-road utility: the Jeep Renegade.
The 2015 Jeep Renegade is one of Jeep’s crossover SUVs, which people may frown upon, but it nevertheless comes from a manufacturer that strives to please with everything that gets produced. Some of the vehicle’s features include 8.7 inches of ground clearance, optional dual range-transfer case, and a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic with manual shifting mode.
A tiny package does coincide with tiny punch, but it works well for the Renegade. The base model comes standard with a turbocharged 1.4L inline four engine making 160 hp and 184 lb-ft. of torque, enough to get travelers where they need to go while averaging 24 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The optional Trailhawk model cranks things up a notch, complete with standard four-wheel-drive and a 2.4L inline four engine.

Some of the other vehicles that made the list where the 2015 Chevrolet Trax, 2015 Fiat 500, Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Ford Fusion, and CPO Lexus IS. All the vehicles take into consideration both a financial and functional perspective, so as much as we think the Ford Raptor should be included, such a rig will just have to come later in life.
As an off-roader, how would you feel about letting your kid or yourself, drive a Renegade (or for that matter, any of the other nine vehicles on the list?) Let us know in the comments below.
