Off Road Xtreme reviewed the all-new Mickey Thompson Baja MTZp3 off-road tire during the 2014 SEMA Show, recently held in Las Vegas, Nevada, and were mightily impressed with it. But it seems we were not the only ones that thought highly of the new tire. After reviewing more than 2,000 products previewed at the SEMA Show, journalist Mikhail Lastochkin of The Russian Federation’s Polny Privod 4×4 Magazine and journalist Perry Mack of Canada’s 4WDrive Magazine selected the Baja MTZp3 for two unique awards.
“The Baja MTZ is an incredible mud-terrain tire, and we were so pleased that it was selected by industry journalists to receive these special awards,” stated Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing for Mickey Thompson. “This tire delivers rugged style, reliable performance in a variety of terrains, longer tread life and responsive handling on the street.”
According to our contacts at Mickey Thompson, the new off-road tire should hit the market sometime in June 2015. The new Mickey Thompson Baja MTZp3 was designed with a unique silica-reinforced tread compound for longer wear, enhanced wet weather capability, and superior cut and chip resistance.
Its tread also features siped tread lugs with variable draft angles for responsive handling and stone ejection, and angled shoulder scallops with mud pocket scoops for better traction in mud and loose soil. The sidewall is reinforced with Mickey Thompson’s triple-ply PowerPly technology along with decoupling grooves and four pitch SideBiters that deliver better flexibility and traction on irregular surfaces.
The Baja MTZp3 will debut in 22 popular 15- to 20-inch fitments. For more details on the all-new off-road tire, go to the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels website, and stay in touch with the latest news from the company by giving its Facebook page a Like!
