So, we all know that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is the ultimate get around vehicle no matter what terrain or even continent you are on. It offers all the luxuries you would expect out of a Mercedes, but what if you are wanting something a little more beefy – something that screams “I can go anywhere and do anything and I don’t need your help?”
The G63 AMG 6×6 released by Mercedes-Benz last year showed that they were bound and determined to go anywhere land could take them on this planet with the six-wheels, pick up bed, special chassis, and 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 engine. The problem is that not everyone needs or wants six wheels to get around so to solve this, Mercedes has a new prototype.
Seen undergoing testing here by our friends at Autoblog, with wider fender flares, larger and meatier bumpers, side skirts that have been upgraded, a ride height that is higher and matches the 6×6, and an enlarged rolling stock, this G-Class prototype has a true sense of what a “beefy” SUV would be. So, subtract a couple wheels, take off the pickup bed, and add the “beef” and this new concept is ready for those that need to get around on the toughest terrain.
It’s speculated that the same engine in the standard G63 will provide the power needed to get around, which with 544 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque, coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission, we have no doubt that this beast of an SUV will be able to climb the rockiest slopes and the sandiest dunes.
Now the only question is, what is it going to cost?
