There is more action going on in Sin City this weekend than the annual Donny and Marie show at the Flamingo. The roar of off-road vehicles will out weigh the ringing of a slot machine that just hit a jackpot for the 2016 Mint 400.
The great american race kicked off yesterday with qualifying. The teams headed South to Primm near the California and Nevada border with the Buffalo Bills roller coaster in the back ground.
The 2015 Mint 400 winner, Justin Lofton, took the top spot and looks to stay in front come Saturday’s race. The top 10 qualifiers were as follows:
- Justin Lofton (41)
- Andy Mcmillin (31)
- Bryce Menzies (70)
- Jesse Jones (76)
- Justin Matney (4)
- Jason Voss (35)
- Derrick Sproule (65)
- Rob MacCachren (11)
- Josh Daniel (90)
- Lalo Laguna (17)
Notable drivers like BJ Baldwin qualified 17th, Steve Olliges 22nd, Greg Adler 25th, Curt Leduc 28th, Adam Householder 29th, and Tim Herbst 34th. Postions only last so long as Lofton will have a bullseye on his truck for the better part of the race.
Feel like putting your money where your mouth is for the race? The sports book at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino allows you to wager on both Trick Trucks and Class 1500. The top dog to win the 2016 Mint 400 in the Trick Truck class is Jason Voss at 4/1 odds and Jon Walker at 5/2 in Class 1500 as of March 3rd.
