Lamborghini To Release Replacement To Off-Road “Rambo Lambo” In 2017

Lamborghini is known for its high-end, high-dollar super cars that only a small percentage of the world can afford. Starting in 2017, according to InAutoNews, Lamborghini will be adding a new vehicle to its small offering of sports cars, only this time the iconic bull will be hurdling from the front end of an SUV rather than a squatty high-horsepower number.

lambo_suv_5Officially debuted to the public as a prototype back in 2012, the Lamborghini Urus is set to be released to the market in 2017, giving Lamborghini its first model in the SUV realm since its failed LM002 SUV, more popularly known as the Rambo Lambo, was discontinued in 1993.

While some of you may be scratching your head wondering why one of the premiere supercar manufacturers is planning to once again try to branch into the sport utility market, the move by the Volkswagen Group-owned company comes after an already successful streak in the market by Porsche with the Cayenne SUV.

Following this success, the VW parent company will be releasing its $79,100 Porsche Macan crossover in April, followed by Bentley’s crossover in 2016, which is set to be the most powerful crossover ever produced.

While the production of the Urus was confirmed by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann at the Detroit Auto Show, preliminary specifications for the future SUV have yet to be released. However, rumors surrounding the new model suggest the use of a 4.0L V8 engine good for about 650 BHP.

The price for the Urus is expected to be around $229,000, which is in-line with Lamborghini’s “base” Gallardo model (soon to be replaced by the new Huracan sports car). But with a price tag like that, it begs the question how many people will actually make use of the vehicle’s sport utility capabilities. With a predicted 3,000 deliveries a year, we could soon find out.
