Whether you’re an off-road enthusiast on the sidelines or behind the wheel of your own performance machine, you’ve undoubtedly heard of the famed King of the Hammers competition held annually in the Johnson Valley, California area. Having grown over a thousand times larger than it was when it started in 2007, the competition continues to boom nearly three years after Jeff Knoll, one of the original co-founders of the event, sold his interest in the event, as well as Hammerking Productions.
According to our friends at Off-Road.com, Knoll’s contribution to the off-road community didn’t stop when he left King of the Hammers. In fact, coming up next season, Knoll will be hosting his own off-road event in Reno, Nevada, to help promote the off-road sport and encourage the protection of motorized recreation.
Debuting under the name Silver State 4 Wheel & Offroad Jamboree, the event will be a week long and center around John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino in downtown Reno, and Wild West Motorsports Park, just 10 minutes away.
Kicking off on July 14, 2014, the event will begin with an OHV Leadership Summit hosted by the Off Road Business Association (ORBA). This summit will be part of a bi-annual ORBA meeting schedule aiming to bring some of the biggest OHV associations and advocates face-to-face to work on protection plans for the off-road hobby.
Following the summit, event participants will be able to dive into some of the best recreation opportunities the Reno area has to offer, including UTV and 4WD day trips, hiking, fly fishing, and even water adventures like floating down the Truckee River.
In addition to area recreation, highlights of the event include two days of racing (Friday July 18Â and Saturday July 19) at Wild West Motorsports Park, where participants will compete in the first ever HellsGate Grand Prix — an unlimited short-course rock race. During downtimes at the race, participants can also partake in the Downhill Deathbox Derby which puts participants in unique unlimited gravity vehicles to race down steep terrain at the motorsports park.
Another highlight of the Jamboree will be a test-run of Knoll’s navigational challenge called RallyVenture.
This competition, made for street-legal vehicles, will allow 25 industry professionals to get a first-hand look at what could be the Cannonball Run of the OHV industry expected to go public in 2015.
An industry show, OHV Show and Shine, race vehicle display, and nightly OHV-themed parties round out the week for this amazing future event.
Event registry will open soon, so be sure to check the event’s website regularly for your chance to take part in the next major OHV event!
