Jeep Launches Custom Map Decals For Its Current Vehicles

The technology behind maps we use is constantly changing, though at their core, they still serve the same purpose. Whether it’s a huge piece of paper that gets folded up 50 times, an app built into a smart phone, handheld GPS unit or in-car navigation, they all show us the known routes, trails, and streets. Jeep and Mopar have decided to help newer Jeep owners customize their rigs by allowing them to have a custom printed map on a hood decal specifically designed for their vehicle.

It isn’t very often anymore that you see someone with a paper map sprawled out across the hood of their Jeep as they are deciding which fork to take down the trail, but the hood graphic concept definitely brings it to mind. Jeep and Mopar teamed up with 3M to produce these vehicle specific add-on graphics. Available for 2007-2014 JK Wranglers, 2014 KL Cherokees and 2011-2014 WK2 Grand Cherokees, each owner can go to the Mopar website and design their own hood decal using pre-loaded suggestions such as Hell’s Revenge in Moab, the Rubicon Trail in California’s Sierra Nevada, or you can put in your own zip code to get a topographical map of wherever you want.

One of the first sightings of this idea was seen on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in the 2013 SEMA show. It would seem the idea garnered enough attention and Jeep was paying attention. “The Jeep brand is teaming with Mopar to help owners personalize their vehicles in a way that supports their passion for off-road and on-road fun,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO — Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.  “We know Jeep owners appreciate new ways to make their vehicles unique, and these hood decals are just the latest offering to help them accomplish that.”

The new hood decals have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $295, plus installation. Check out the Mopar site to customize your own decal. If you decide to make the purchase, you’ll enter your email address and get a specific code to take to a Jeep Dealer. You’ll pay for the decal at the dealer. Eight to 10 days later, your custom graphic will arrive at the dealer. Installation at the dealer is optional and sold separately.

A custom map can easily be selected through the Mopar website so you can showcase your favorite area or trail.
