Jeep and Electrify America are working together to establish a network of charging stations in support of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Once these charging stations are all set up, owners of the 4xe will get to enjoy going to the trails without fear of stalling out in the wilderness. It’s a great way to show support for owners taking a chance on the 4xe, which is going to be Jeep’s first real foray into hybrid off-road vehicles.
“Electrification opens a new chapter in the Jeep brand story, and it brings an entirely new level of excitement and enjoyment for our enthusiastic owners,” said Christian Meunier, Jeep Brand Chief Executive Officer–Stellantis. “Key to making Jeep brand the greenest SUV brand is assuring our owners can enjoy the benefits of electric propulsion wherever they go, including the most iconic off-road trails in the country.”
Jeep Badge of Honor trails are to be the first ones to receive these charging stations. Initially, Jeep and Electrify America are focusing on just three locations–Moab, Utah; the Rubicon Trail in Pollock Pines, California; and Big Bear in California. The plan is to have these first three sites up and operational by the end of Spring 2021. By the end of 2021, even more locations will be good to go, and will likely spread to other regions of the U.S.

According to the press release, each charging station will be accessible to 4xe owners via an app made by Electrify America. Owners will simply pull into the station, login to the app, and begin recharging. They’ll also be able to monitor the charging status while waiting.
“It is our goal to provide electric vehicle drivers with the freedom to get to where they want to go–whether it be on a highway or off-road–and we look forward to bringing Jeep enthusiasts along on the journey,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer of Electrify America. “Through the customizable electric vehicle charging offerings of our Electrify Commercial B2B brand, we were able to work with Jeep to identify where their drivers will need charging access most, and make it a reality.”
Each charging station will dispense Level 2 (240V) charging capability. Combined with the 4xe’s 17 kilowatt-hour battery pack, it affords drivers the ability to charge in about two hours and achieve an extra 21 miles of range on top of the 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engine’s range. With 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, the 4xe is no slouch in terms of pure performance.
