There was plenty to see and hear at this years Off Road Expo in Pomona, California, but none of which was more anticipated than the announcement of the 2015 SCORE Baja 1000 map. It was unveiled Saturday at the SCORE Baja 1000 exhibit area within the expo.
The anticipation of the announcement has been flying through the off-road racing world with no clear answers to what the course would be. The word going around was that it would be a loop race, which was confirmed come the time of the announcement.
The 2015 SCORE Baja 1000 will be a loop race running approximately 840 miles, much longer than past loop races ranging around 600 miles. Roger Norman announced, “The El Rosario part of this years course will have 100-percent new course. It also increases the total miles that this year’s Baja 1000 will be.”
Rod Hall was in attendance and gave his feel on this years race. Rod Hall has raced in every since Baja 1000 and looks to continue to race until 2017 to get number 50. Rod hall has 22 class wins at the Baja 1000. Hall said, “This is going to be a pretty good loop race this year. This looks like it will end up being a typical Baja race. You do not need to be the fastest, you just need to get to the checkered flag first.”
The drawing for this years race will take place on October 28th for all classes except Trophy Truck and Class 1. These two classes will be qualifying for the Baja 1000 in November at the SEMA show like they did last year.
Next year’s Baja 1000 will also be a loop race leading up to something special for the 50th anniversary of the race in 2017. What do you think of the course? Tell us in the comments below!
