Looks like GM’s got a hit on its hands with the new mid-size Colorado/Canyon rigs. They look good and have the right powertrains and equipment specs. Truck buyers have concurred, sales are up 135-percent and 230-percent respectively and currently they’re the hottest new trucks in a stale segment. All that could soon change when the new Tacoma launches at the North America International Auto Show next week though. As a deterrent to this upcoming fanfare from Toyota, GM’s sales and marketing gurus have dreamed up the Canyon Nightfall Edition and will introduce it at NAIAS as well. Detroit News brings us the story.
Essentially a murdered out trim package, it features Onyx-black paint and grille, spray-on bed liner, 18-inch wheels, and other tweaks. “The new Canyon Nightfall Edition expands the Canyon lineup and gives style-conscious customers another choice,” Duncan Aldred, GMC vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. “Importantly, customers get the great looks of the Canyon Nightfall Edition and its unique content at a greater value than ordering the features separately.”
This all sounds good and we think it looks cool too, especially the grille and bed-liner. We’d swap out the barely average wheels for something a little meatier but the Nightfall Edition makes an attractive rig that much better.
As we shared previously, there’s a war brewing in the mid-size truck segment. The end result is truck fans will be able to choose from the best “little” trucks we’ve seen in years.
