On August 4th, 2014, a trademark application for the name “Sierra Elevation” was filed by none other than GM. Barring the serial number 86356469, the application was filed under the Goods and Services category of “Motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles, sport utility vehicles, trucks, vans, engines therefor and structural parts thereof,” according to GM Authority.
Since the name contains the word Sierra, the Elevation could be a new trim package for the GMC Sierra. Perhaps this will be a dedicated off-road package? Ever since Ford released the F-150 Raptor SVT, rumors have circulated that GM might try an off-roader of its own. Elevation does sound lofty; perhaps a truck designed to tackle mountainous terrain. With that being said, will this be a performance package only for the Sierra or will the Silverado get a version as well?
If it's not just a trim package, then what? Could it be a full-blown off-roader, or a Corvette under the hood?
Perhaps a GMC Sierra-only performance package will increase sales and break the truck out from under the Chevy Silverado’s shadow. What engine options would a package like this contain? Could it be a fire-breathing Corvette cross? Will the Elevation have a performance suspension much like the Raptor?
Only time will tell what the GMC Sierra Elevation is going to be. What would you like to see in an off-road performance package from GM? Would you want this package to be a GMC exclusive or should the Silverado get one too?
