Far Out, Man: Jeep Gladiator Farout Concept Offers Diesel Power

The Jeep Gladiator “Farout” is the latest in a series of new concept vehicles debuted by Jeep. Of all the Jeep concept vehicles we’ve seen this year, the “Farout” is the one that we find most interesting for the Off Road Xtreme reader.

Okay, we know, you’re probably thinking, “Not another overlander vehicle festooned with gizmos and doodads.” We get it, but this one is different. Why? Because Jeep took the time to outfit its “Farout” Gladiator concept vehicle with upgrades and alterations that make real-world sense and are executed with truly remarkable “custom” quality.

For example, the Jeep Gladiator delivers the fuel-efficient and long-range 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine. This power plant cranks out a whopping 442 pound-feet of torque. As any experienced off-roader know, it’s torque that gets you up those hills and helps you slowly grind through the sticky stuff. But that’s just the beginning of the good things about the Farout concept vehicle.

A fully contained deployable rooftop tent sleeps four people and measures 16×7.5 square feet when opened up. Inside the vehicle’s cabin, you’ll find a wood-lined interior with soft ambient lighting, a fully functional refrigerator and stove, hanging storage racks, and table space with built-in seats. Plaid flannel seat inserts add that ultimate outdoors lifestyle touch. The Farout was done up in a new “Earl” body color that gives it a “let’s get down to business” appearance.

A long list of off-road goodies includes a Jeep Performance Products two-inch lift kit and FOX high-performance shock absorbers, 17-inch matte charcoal wheels, and 37-inch mud-terrain tires. There’s also a special steel bumper carrying a Warn 12,000-pound winch, front and rear rock rails, and an integrated roof rack system to store gear topside.
