There’s nothing worse than hitting a trail with the guys, crawling the 4x4s to some unnamed yet beautiful summit, and then finding trash everywhere. Whether it’s beer cans or bullet casings, garbage has a way of ruining what would otherwise be a picturesque pitstop. Thankfully, organizations that seek to fight back against the buildup of crap have a friend in ExtremeTerrain.
As part of its Clean Trail Grant, ExtremeTerrain has money to donate to organizations around the country. This money in turn goes toward cleaning up our off-road destinations. Allotments of $250 go toward eligible groups, and that can be spent on things like trash pickers, garbage bags, lunches for the volunteers, or other trail improvement expenses.
Eligibility is quite lenient, as per the rules lined out on the Clean Trail Grant webpage. These rules state the group must:
- Organize or belong to a Wrangler/4×4 group/club with more than 5 members
- Organize or belong to an environmental organization/club with more than 5 members
- Own or work at a private or public off-road park
- Organize or belong to an OHV Organization with more than 5 members
- Organize a trail clean-up project with a dedicated 4×4/off-road purpose
From there, it’s a matter of meeting the requirements to receive the grant. These requirements are:
- Proof of your affiliation with organization/club/park
- Must have a club or organization website (not a social media page)
- Must provide digital photo of trail improvement project
- Action shots of volunteers preferred!
- Completion of application form
- Organization’s are eligible once per year up to two years
- Sign the eligibility waiver
Several groups have already received their grants. From Colorado to Wisconsin, Indiana to New Mexico, and elsewhere, the caretakers are getting taken care of, and it’s all thanks to ExtremeTerrain.
We encourage you to join up into a group, seek out one of these grants, and go help out your fellow off-road enthusiasts by maintaining the places we love to go!
