We think it’s fair to qualify Subaru owners as a special breed of car owner. After all, Subaru is one of the few companies to keep the station wagon bodystyle past the 90s, when SUVs gained dominance, and the application of all-wheel drive on (nearly) every vehicle has always struck us as an unnecessary-but-neat schtick. These features have attracted a certain kind of customer, the kind of customer who does things like, well…this.
What you’re looking is a jacked-up monster wagon based around a 1998 Subaru Legacy. As though that wasn’t a bonkers-enough project, the home builder also swapped a 2005 WRX STi motor good for 300 horsepower into his monster wagon. With a claimed $32,000 invested, this project would be difficult to replicate for less…if there’s anybody else out there that wants it, that is.
Amazingly, this project isn’t even totally complete after all that money, requiring a full exhaust and turbo piping system to be considered “done” for all intents and purposes. Rolling on 33-inch Procomp Extreme mud tires with up to 14-inches of suspension travel from Ballistic Racing shocks, this Subaru can clamber to places generally off-limits to the plucky Japanese brand.
That’s if you can get this project finished and on the road, of course. There’s a long list of other modifications/potential problem areas, and the Buy It Now price of $15,000 is a large bet to place on a unique-yet-unproven machine. Still, it’d be pretty boss to drive around the biggest Subaru anybody has ever seen, and that 300 horsepower STi engine only sweetens the deal.
Would you take a $15,000 chance on this jacked Subaru?
