For serious overland travelers, off-road enthusiasts, and anyone accustomed to carrying a vehicle’s worth of adventure gear on the roof, a rack is more than a place to strap down cargo. It becomes part of the vehicle itself. Dometic is taking that idea a step further with the launch of the all-new Slimline 3 Roof Rack, the first of several new products planned for the Dometic Front Runner Series.
Drawing on decades of engineering experience, real-world testing, and Front Runner’s adventure heritage, the Slimline 3 represents a substantial evolution of the company’s roof-rack platform. Dometic says the new system combines Swedish innovation with design and testing in South Africa, resulting in what the company calls its most advanced, lightest, and toughest roof rack to date.
Rather than simply refining the previous Slimline II, Dometic has reworked several fundamental elements of the rack. The result is a lower-profile platform with a redesigned slat architecture, increased modularity, integrated accessory mounting and wiring provisions, and an easier method of removing and reinstalling the rack.

Modularity Takes Center Stage
One of the Slimline 3’s most significant changes is its approach to the rack’s individual slats. Users can add or remove slats without dismantling the rack structure, while an adjustable slat pitch makes it possible to change the layout to accommodate different gear. Dometic says those adjustments can be made while retaining the rack’s full structural stability.
That flexibility should prove particularly useful for vehicles that routinely change roles. A rack configured for a rooftop tent and camping equipment one weekend may need to carry different equipment on the next trip. Rather than treating the platform as a fixed structure, Slimline 3 allows its configuration to adapt to the load.
Supporting that modular approach is an entirely redesigned slat profile. According to Dometic, the new architecture provides greater strength and stiffness while keeping weight down, creating a stronger and more capable platform intended for demanding environments. Integrated dual T-slots provide mounting flexibility for gear, rack accessories, and other adventure equipment.
Dometic has also retained compatibility with its existing top-mount rack accessories, an important consideration for current Front Runner customers with an established collection of gear. The company is supplementing that compatibility with a range of accessories developed specifically for Slimline 3.

Lower, Cleaner, And Easier To Load
The new rack sits 20 percent lower overall than the Slimline II, a change intended to reduce wind resistance and noise while improving the way the rack integrates visually with the vehicle. The Slimline 3 also uses a flat platform without a perimeter lip, simplifying the process of loading cargo onto the rack.
Those changes address two realities of living with a roof rack every day. Added height and wind noise can become noticeable on the highway, while raised perimeter rails can complicate loading oversized equipment. Slimline 3’s flatter, lower architecture is designed to make the platform less intrusive when it isn’t being pushed to its limits.
Cargo security has also been integrated directly into the structure. Standardized tie-down points are built into each of the rack’s four corners, giving users readily available locations for securing equipment without first installing additional tie-down hardware.

Built With Accessories In Mind
Modern adventure vehicles frequently carry more than cargo overhead. Camp lighting, scene lights, electrical accessories, and other powered equipment can quickly turn a clean rack installation into a maze of exposed wiring.
Slimline 3 addresses that problem with concealed wire-routing channels incorporated into the platform. The channels are intended to simplify the integration of lighting, power systems, and other accessories while producing a cleaner finished installation.
Dometic has also focused on corrosion resistance for vehicles expected to spend their lives exposed to weather, dirt, and harsh environments. High-strength 3CR12 stainless-steel sheet-metal components are paired with black-coated stainless-steel fasteners, which the company says provide long-lasting durability while contributing to the rack’s understated appearance.
Another notable addition is Dometic’s proprietary easy-release mounting system. It is designed to make removal and reinstallation of the rack easier while preserving vehicle integrity and the roof seal, as well as simplifying maintenance.

More Than A New Roof Rack
Slimline 3 also marks the beginning of a broader strategy for Dometic. The Dometic Front Runner Series combines Dometic’s product-development experience with Front Runner’s expedition background to create what the company describes as a unified adventure-gear platform.
That platform is intended to encompass roof racks, storage products, rack accessories, camping equipment, and future products designed to work together rather than function as isolated pieces of equipment. Dometic says each product in the series is being developed for compatibility with the others, allowing customers to build a complete adventure ecosystem around their vehicle.
The Slimline 3 is the first physical expression of that strategy and offers an early indication of where Dometic intends to take the Front Runner Series.
“Slimline 3 reflects our commitment to continuous innovation and our belief that adventure equipment should evolve alongside the people who use it,” said Gerhard Hartzenberg, Head of Dometic Vehicle Outfitters at Dometic.
Hartzenberg added, “By combining intelligent engineering, premium materials, and real-world testing, we have created a roof rack that is stronger, lighter, smarter and more capable than ever before. It is built to help adventurers tackle whatever lies ahead.”

Broad Vehicle Support From Launch
Dometic isn’t limiting the new platform to a handful of vehicles. At launch, Slimline 3 compatibility includes the Suzuki Jimny 3 Door (JB74W), Ford Ranger Double Cab (P703), Ineos Grenadier, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250, Toyota 4Runner 6th Gen (N500), Ford Bronco 4 Door Hard Top (U725), Toyota Hilux Double Cab (8th/9th Gen), Isuzu D-Max Double Cab (RG01), Mazda BT-50 Double Cab (TF), Lexus GX 550, Volkswagen Amarok (NF), and Ford Ranger Super Duty (P703).
The Slimline 3 Roof Rack becomes available for pre-order beginning August 20, 2026, with the first units scheduled to ship in October 2026. Additional information will be available through Dometic and local Dometic Front Runner dealers.
