The Diesel-Powered 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty Is Here (But Not)

Back in late 2024, Ford teased its new 2026 Ranger Super Duty across social media. The company broke our hearts, however, when we found out that this new model wouldn’t be destined for our shores. Instead, the Ranger Super Duty would live down-under in Australia and in other global markets where the larger F-150 and F-Series Super Duty trucks aren’t sold. Now, the company has fully revealed the tough midsize, and the pain cuts deeper.

“The design brief to the team for Ranger Super Duty was ‘Ultimate Tough’,” said Max Wolff, head of design. “The pumped guards, for instance, were necessary to accommodate the track increase and larger tire size and the squared-off, over-fender design both unique to Ranger Super Duty.”

The 2026 Ranger Super Duty is available in both Single and Double Cab chassis cab configurations along with Super and Double Cab pickup models. This allows the Ranger Super Duty to be outfit however the customer needs, whether that’s for working on the farm or the construction site. It can be upfit for emergency services or forestry needs.

Ultimate Diesel Power

Powering the Ranger Super Duty is the company’s stout 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine. Ford hasn’t released official power figures just yet; however, the engine is used in the standard Ranger in Australia and in that configuration produces 247 hp with 443 lb-ft of torque. Ford has said that the cooling package for Ranger Super Duty has been upsized.

Underpinning the eight-lug truck is a reinforced steel frame that utilizes thicker-gauge material and additional crossmembers. This added strength, combined with a robust powertrain, give the Ranger Super Duty a maximum tow rating of 9,921 pounds (4,500 kg). This is significantly more than the 7,500-pound max of the North American Ranger. Ford says the truck will have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 9,921 pounds (4,500 kg) and a Gross Combined Weight Rating of 17,637 pounds (8,000 kg). While no specific payload rating has been given, we can deduce that it will likely land in the 1,500 to 2,500-pound range.

Rugged Off-Road Durability

Ford Australia says the Ranger Super Duty is expected to spend the majority of its life working off the beaten path. Because of this, the company has outfit it with the hardware necessary to survive in such a rugged environment. This starts with a ride height that is raised about an inch over the standard Ranger, along with upsized 33-inch all-terrain tires. Front and rear electronic locking differentials are the real party pieces, while a high-strength steel front skid plate keeps everything protected. A fully sealed snorkel with a built-in water drain is also standard, because Australia.

Also included are Ford’s Trail Control tech along with the novel Trail Turn Assist functionality. Heavy-duty dual front recovery hooks come standard and thankfully aren’t painted red.

No Ranger Super Duty For U.S.

Pricing and availability for the mighty 2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty has yet to be announced. But, let’s face it—it doesn’t matter. With the continued half-ton market dominance of Ford’s F-150 in the North American market, there is less than no chance of the Ranger Super Duty ever being offered in the U.S.
