“I pushed really hard from the start. Daniel did a great job with the notes, he was just perfect, so absolutely nothing bad to say. I was really happy with the stage. I think we lost maybe twenty seconds at a junction. Daniel told me the right way, but I went wrong, but for the rest it was ok. I had a good feeling and the car was perfect again, so there’s nothing to add. It was a good day and tomorrow we will be first on the road so it maybe will be another story, but it’s a part of the experience that we have to take,” Leob explained after today’s stage.
He continued by saying, “We had some very high altitude today too. Yesterday I tried to manage the car in preparation for the mountain stage. Today it was the second stage and I had absolutely no problems with the car, so I tried to push harder and I got the result. Tomorrow may be more difficult. It’s got some navigation like today, but today it was ok, so we will see tomorrow how we can manage that.”

Carlos Sainz was also pleased with how this stage turned out for them, “We did not drive very quickly at the beginning because I was scared to get a puncture in the rio through which we were going. Afterwards, it was going well for us. I’m happy with today, there were no problems. Of course we’re still in the fight and there’s still a long way to go.”

“I think the car has been working really well in all conditions so far, so we cannot really complain so much, except, of course, I lost 14 minutes on the first day and it is a lot on the Dakar. It’s very difficult to give away fourteen minutes straight away, but we are still a long way from the end,” Sainz continued.
Nasser Al-Attiyah was the first car behind the Peugeots and had this to say about racing with them, “It’s unbelievable! Yesterday and today never have I pushed in my life like this. If you ask Matthieu, he will say that we drove at more than 100%. But we have no chance against the Peugeots, no chance. It’s impossible, if the Peugeots don’t stop, it’s difficult to catch them.”
We will have to stay tuned to see if Team Peogeots can keep up there domination of the 2016 Dakar. Do you think they can win the remaining stages? Tell us in the comments below!
