Peugeot has been dominating the 2016 Dakar, but during Stage 12 Mini and Toyota were able to find out what it takes to keep them off the podium. Mini finished first and second with Toyota rounding out the podium.

Nasser Al-Attiyah finished second in today’s stage, “It was really very long and very hot. I was pushing all the way. I’m quite happy to win the stage. On the last 30 kilometres we broke the front drive shaft. We only had two wheels. But it was good, the tyres are working very well and we didn’t have any punctures, nothing. The machine went really well here. It’s difficult, but I need to confirm my position against Giniel. Now we are 21 or 22 minutes in front of him, so yes, I’m quite happy.”

Stephane Peterhansel may have said it best at the end of the stage, ““I need to say one more day finished, so it’s not so bad. As for the result, I don’t know, but for sure, this morning we started really safely. We tried to do some really good navigation. It was not easy because there was a lot of navigation, fesh-fesh and rios.”

“At the end it was really narrow, like a labyrinth, but we are very happy to be here. It’s never done: if you have ten minutes, two minutes or one hour and you have a big technical problem then you’re stopped and it’s finished for the overall victory. It’s never over. I’ve had some good experiences like that, but also some bad experiences,” he continued.
