Course Details Announced For The 2016 Baja 1000

REWA013

For the last couple years, the Off Road Expo has been a place that SCORE has announced the map and any other interesting news about the Baja 1000. Last year they announced as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Baja 1000, Dana Brown would be filming Dust 2 Glory – the sequel to the 2005 film about the race.

This year the course map was released which included some new sections as well as some routine areas. “Starting and finishing in the heart of Ensenada in front of the historic Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center, the course travels in a counter-clockwise direction,” Roger Norman, SCORE CEO said. “It includes the approximate 20 mile stretch to Ojos Negros which is used in both directions. Outgoing, the course heads south from Ojos Negros through Santo Tomas and then runs along the picturesque Pacific Ocean for over 100 miles and then back across to the center of Baja California Norte.”

Drivers like BJ Baldwin come out to the exhibit to sign autographs for local fans.

The course is approximately 830 miles and will cover both side of the peninsula including four checkpoints. “The course will travel a new route from Colonet to Llano Colorado and across to Valley de Trinidad,” Norman explained. “The race course goes along the highway from San Matias to Villa del Sol then crossing the highway at El Chinero, north to Coabuso Junction and then climb up the summit in the opposite direction as previous races from the desert to Nuevo Junction and on to Catarina. From Catarina, it will be back to Ojos Negros and from Ojos Negros back to the finish line.”
